In "Flight of the Goose" set in 1971, the prescient scientist is asked "will we perish by fire or ice?"
At that time he was not sure (nor was I, writing that book in the 90s for a first draft and updating before publishing in 2004), but now it is looking like it is FIRE...
and of course, the ensuing meltdown of the permafrost, which locks in so much methane.
