fantastic, haunting film

Extinct or endangered cultures of the Amazon

I just saw Embrace of the Serpent and found it stunning, awesomely fascinating, hypnotic, powerful, tender, trippy, haunting, and terribly sad.

The Colombian writer, researchers, filmmakers and indigenous actors (also the European or North American actors) and all the tribal women who painstakingly reconstructed the now-"archaic" wardrobes have my deepest respect and gratitude.

There are many corollaries with Flight of the Goose: the ongoing extermination of ancient societies and lifeways, ancient knowledge, extinction of the natural world, corporate plunder, and a narrative that at it's core is the tale of a scientist and an indigenous shaman exploring each others' worldviews and conflicting - even hating or fearing - but growing to friendship and respect despite such vast differences...

ending in tragedy.
